Unique Airbnb A-frame cabin in California redwoods

Whiskey Hollow is the best Airbnb cabin nestled in the California redwoods in Felton, California. This cozy retreat is conveniently located near Santa Cruz. Additionally, Henry Cowell State Park with towering redwood trees is just down the road. While the Airbnb hosts offered a special offer rate for my stay, opinions are always my own. And I highly recommend staying at this charming A-frame cabin in a wooded setting. It’s perfect for solo travelers, girlfriend getaways, or a romantic couples weekend.

Charming A-frame Airbnb cabin offers a peaceful retreat in the forest

Unique Airbnb A-frame cabin in California redwoods

Set in a wooded residential area, this charming A-frame Airbnb cabin is absolutely gorgeous. Named Whiskey Hollow, this is one of the most unique and most comfortable Airbnbs I’ve stayed at during my travels. While you’ll feel far away (heard coyotes at night), you’re still conveniently located near restaurants and the beautiful California coast.

I was visiting a friend in San Francisco and wanted to also spend a few days on the California coast. I initially considered renting a beach cottage in Santa Cruz (about 15 minutes away). That is, until I saw and fell in love with Whiskey Hollow – the best Airbnb cabin (note the Airbnb link may appear broken; it’s not and is safe to click through).

I’m a huge fan of trees (Check out my adventures of hiking all 66 Minnesota state parks – lots of trees. And see my one-word book review of The Hidden Life of Trees – 5*).

Driving to Whiskey Hollow – the charming Airbnb cabin in the woods

You’ll receive great directions from the Airbnb super hosts about how to get to this cozy retreat. So I’ll only provide a couple of tips.

If you’re coming from San Francisco like I did, expect a lot of turns on the drive down. It’s only about 40 miles, but took about an hour. I’m glad I decided to drive during the daytime rather than at night.

I was surprised that the best Airbnb cabin in Felton, California was actually in a residential area. However, you’ll feel like you’re miles away in the private wooded setting. While I did hear construction or tree crews occasionally during the daytime hours, most of the time I only heard the birds. At night, it’s very peaceful – I heard coyotes one night.

The road that leads you to this Airbnb is a little narrow and I recommend backing into the driveway as it is a little steep. And it is difficult to see other vehicles coming your way when exiting the driveway.

Self check-in at the best Airbnb in Felton, California

This beautiful A-frame Airbnb cabin is set among towering redwood trees. It’s super cute during the day and even more so at night with its lights. There’s plenty of parking in front of the Airbnb. You’ll enter on the left side of the house. This is where you’ll find the key lockbox (the super hosts will provide you the code). I’m not very good with stuff like that and it was super easy.

If you have any issues, you can contact the Airbnb super hosts via the Airbnb app. They are very responsive. I arrived later than originally planned (the next morning). The lockbox code had expired, but they immediately responded to me with the reset code via the Airbnb app messaging.

Down the short hallway, you’ll find a romantic bathroom with a two-person whirlpool tub, candles, and spa-inspired amenities. It bears repeating – this Airbnb is located in a high-risk fire area so make sure all candles are extinguished properly.

The first floor also features one of the two bedrooms available to guests – a charming space that comes with a full bed, a writing nook, and dresser.

You’ll also have access to a lower-level that features an area to do a light workout.

Virtual tour of the romantic loft – a writer’s retreat

I cannot rave enough about the romantic and fairytale loft at Whiskey Hollow. First, you’ll walk up a curved stairway that opens up to the spacious loft area. If you’re a writer like me, it’s the perfect idyllic setting that features a mini office area overlooking the living area and the towering redwoods.

A look from behind the curtain in the loft bedroom – you’ll feel like you’re living in a fairytale.

At the far end of the loft is my favorite feature of this romantic and magical Airbnb – translucent curtains open up to a comfortable queen-sized bed.

Note: I had a hard time figuring out the overhead lights in the loft, but the Airbnb hosts answered my inquiry right away. Hint: The six lamps are manual – you can switch off the two dresser lamps and the two side tables via the switches on their cords. You can control the overhead lights via a switch on the wall at the top of the stairs and by the bed.
