Best free things to do in Isla Mujeres, Mexico: Sculpture garden

Mexico is the best place to visit – or at least that’s the opinion from a travel blogger who has visited the country 27 times over the past 30 years. It’s me. I’m the travel blogger. But I started going to this beautiful country long before blogging, social media and cell phones even existed. I didn’t make it to Isla Mujeres, Mexico (a short ferry ride from Cancun) until 2019.

It was during this trip to Isla Mujeres that my husband and I wandered upon some amazing street art, building murals and sculptures in an accidental kind of way. And it’s free! Located near North Beach on Isla Mujeres, Mexico, I highly recommend taking a brief detour to check out some of the most unusual sculptures.

Off-the-beaten path: Fun things to do in Isla Mujeres, Mexico

I’m totally intrigued to learn more about the story behind the amazing sculptures we came across while walking by Hotel Paradise Suites near Isla Mujeres, Mexico’s North Beach. Initially, we were told an owner of the property was the sculptor.

Update: I’ve learned these intriguing sculptures on Isla Mujeres were most likely sculpted by or at least inspired by French sculptor Bruno Catalano – “symbolizing the emptiness that’s created when forced to leave your home, your life, your land, your roots for any reason. I’m planning to reach out to the sculpture to validate that claim and for more information.” Meanwhile…enjoy this beautiful open-air outdoor sculpture garden on Isla Mujeres, Mexico.
